I did a blue version of this octopus last year as one of my very first projects and I was very pleased with how it turned out - I decided to make another one for a friend of mine as a gift and found out that for the previous plushie, I made a mistake. Not a crucial one, but I'm glad I caught the mishap.
As it turns out the tentacles and body are one piece - I had finished off once I had the body done and crocheted the tentacles individually. I prefer the actual method as I can fit more tentacles in and they are nicely spaced.
Also, I would prefer not to sew unless I absolutely have to. :)
